You really want Rogue's Cunning Action for this playstyle (Hide as a bonus action), but Ranger adds lots of damage and survivability. My idea would be this: level 1: ranger (take ranger first for the weapon proficiencies). 17 dexterity, 16 constitution, rest into WIS (mostly for saving throws, ranger rarely does anything worthwhile with wisdom)
